Like some of other professions - Medicine and Architecture - to name a few, Engineering is also prevailing since time immemorial. Although importance of engineering as a profession gained its ground only after the industrial revolution but since then it is spreading at fast pace. Right now there is no field in the sphere of human life that can survive without the use of engineering skills of one kind or other. Infact engineering has become the back bone of the growth of civil society. It is only the marvel of engineering that today more then 1000 persons can move a distance of 500 km in 1 hours time that too without any hitch and 100% comfort in the highly comfort loaded compartment of a bullet train and this is just the beginning, time is not far away when we will be traveling under the sea from Great Britain to America in the same kind of an engineering charisma. They play a crucial role in giving shape to a society. The road network, train network, multi storey buildings, automobiles, electricity, computer and other electronic inventions fall in the domain of engineering works only. In nut shell, an engineer touches each and every aspect of our tech savvy lives.

In last 75 years or so with the globalization and increased consumerism, importance engineering has increased many fold  particularly in the developing countries like India. What ever may be the filed, be it civil, electronics, food technology or any other, engineers are in high demand now.

In this society where the tolerance power has become zero only the hundred percept perfect professional are sort after. So to be an engineering professional one has to give hundred percent to be in the race to grab good opportunities in this field. In lieu of this hard work and professionalism this profession provides social status as well as  good returns in terms of money and riches.

So to be one of these highly acclaimed technocrats one should have discipline, patience, commitment to excel in their respective field and self-confidence. If you have all these qualities in you then be ready to compete in some of the highly rated competitive exams to enter world class engineering institutes to refine your skills  to deliver hundred percent.

How?????

To become an Engineer the aspiring candidate have to follow the below given track.
Eligibility to join an Engineering course

There are two options that one can follow to be an engineering graduate.

1.One can join Diploma College/Polytechnic after 10th and get a Diploma in Engineering (in any of desired trade)

a.Educational Qualification

To be eligible for joining a Diploma in Engineering course one should be 10th Class pass or appeared.

Step 1

Interested candidate has to appear in an entrance test conducted by the Technical Education Boards of various State Governments and selected candidates are admitted in the Diploma collages according to the rank of the candidate in the entrance exam.

In the State of Punjab in India Joint Entrance Test (JET) is taken to admit the students in its diploma engineering colleges. This exam is generally held in the month of May-June and consists of Objective type questions on the subject of English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Aptitude.

Step 2

After completing this three years of Diploma course the Diploma Engineers can either join some job of Junior Engineer level or can compete to get admission in the second year of degree in engineering course which is provided by some of the regional engineering collages of the state.  OR

Diploma Engineer can complete his engineering studies through AMIE (Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers) - An alternate option for getting an engineering degree

AMIE introduce non-formal engineering education Programme, successful completion of which is recognised as equivalent to a degree in engineering by the government of India, the union public service commission, state governments and public/ private sector organizations.

2.As second alternative engineering aspirant can opt for 10+2 followed by admission in the Degree Engineering College.

b.Educational Qualification

Eligibility for joining a Bachelor of Engineering Course  is 10+2 Class pass or appeared (Non-Medical stream) with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as main subjects with minimum 60% marks in PCM for most of the prestigious collages.

Step 1

Eligible candidates have to appear in the entrance tests conducted by various state universities (like PU, KU, Delhi University etc), Central Govt Organizations like NIT and independent institution (like IIT’s, BITS Pilani etc.) present at various places in the India. The IITs and NITs grant the degree of B.Tech while the other state and central universities run institutes grant the B.E. degree. After the successful completion of the bachelors you are eligible to work as engineer and serve the society as per your priorities. Those who are interested in academics can chose to continue their studies at post graduate level also.

It is good to make a list of preferred engineering colleges and apply in at least 3-4 colleges. Proper research about the main course and its prospects. The general information and the detailed outline about the prospective jobs etc are readily available on internet. There is a wide range of options available in engineering field..Candidate get admission into these collages for four year degree Programme according to their merit in the examination taken and stream of their interest as selected by them.

Step 2

After successful completion  of degree course and required internship the candidate is ready to join Government, Semi Government or Privates sector as Assistant engineer.

Degree Engineer can pursue higher qualification  such as M.E. followed by Ph.D. and can opt for research work or for academics.

The more competitive Engineers can  compete in Combined Indian Engineering Services exam to get to the top most technical post in various State Governments or the Government of India.
